These territories—long neglected by centralized state power—were indirectly documented in José Eustasio Rivera’s novel. Although not written with scientific taxonomy in mind, La Vorágine carries the essence of a naturalist expedition: it vividly conveys the atmosphere, textures, and sensations of these remote places—territories that breathe resistance and possess the strength to endure despite the catastrophic impact of human actions.
